Online Search for Festival Dates: Option 1 of 2
----------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.drikpanchang.com/festivals/gita-jayanti/gita-jayanti-date-time.html?l=10304
Use this link to find the traditional Hindu date for Gita Jayanti, calculated for any city, for any year, online instantly. (Scroll further down to find the dates according to the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition which uses the Navadvip Panjinka. In most cases, the dates will coincide, but on rare occasions, they may be one day apart.)
Example:
GJ DEC. 2018 Tues. 18th Dec. 2018 www.bit.ly/gjangkor2019
"...amba (Mother) twam anusandadaami bhagavad gite bhava dweshinii..."
- From Gita Dhyaanam by Srīpād Shankarācārya .

Option 2 of 2

When does the next Gīta Jayanti fall for my location?
Free software for generating Gaudiya Vaishnava vedic calendar
Gīta Jayanti is calculated from the Pañcāṅgaṁ (Vedic calendar/almanac) - it falls on the ekādaśī tithi of the śukla pakṣa (bright fortnight) in the vedic month mārga śīrṣa (Nov - Dec)
It is dependent on the movements of the sun & moon. Since the sun and moon rise and set at different times in different parts of the world, there are sometimes minor variations (+ / - one day) in the date of an event falling. (This is dependent usually on a particular tithi being current at the time of sunrise and other technicalities understood by expert vedic astronomers and astrologers. There are variations in tradition also from one sampradaya to another.)
The list of GJ dates for the next ten years has been calculated for the geographical coordinates of Śrī Vṛndāvana Dhām, India. It was calculated using the free 'Gaurabda Calendar 11' software.
This software is attached to this message in a zip file below. It was created by the Int'l Society for Krishna Consciousness, Vaishnava Calendar Committee and distributed via www.krishnadays.com.
This software can be used to calculate and print out all events in the Gaudiya Vaishnava Calendar (Nabadwip Panjika) for all major cities of the world. After installing it, launch the program. Then type ctrl+F - a search window will pop up. In the first box, select 'Events in the pastimes of the Lord'. Then in the box on the right, select 'Advent of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita'. Then set your location, the starting year, and the no. of subsequent years you want to search. Then click find.
It is slightly complicated to use for persons not comfortable with using computers. If you have difficulty, please contact me - dina (at) gitajayanti.org and I will help you to get the information you want.
Happy Gita Jayanti observances.
your humble servant
in service of sri guru and sri gauranga,
dina
P.S. Please note that the date for Gita Jayanti (Moksha Ekadasi Shukla Paksha of the month Margasirsha) sometimes coincides with the famous south indian festival called Vaikuntha Ekadasi which is the main annual event observed by two very important vaishnava temples of South India, namely Sri Rangam and Sri Guruvayur. Once every few years, the two events will fall exactly one month apart. Expert astrologers have explained to me that it is because in South India, the Tamil Calendar is used, which incorporates both solar and lunar elements, thus this variance occurs, whereas the traditional Vedic almanac uses only lunar elements. So in planning our GJ events, we need to note that we should not take it for granted that Vaikuntha Ekadasi will always be the same date as Gita Jayanti. Better to always verify it with the temple diary of these important temples. (Guruvayur Temple Calendar: http://guruvayurdevaswom.nic.in/calendar.html ; Srirangam Temple Calendar: can't be found online at the moment!)

A very interesting website which shows an astronomer's research to verify the actual date of the Mahabharata based on astronomical information given within the text itself. Very interesting.
