Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Dear Udaya Śaṅkar jī,

Namaskaram.  I am glad you like it.

Today we made and uploaded 3 new short videos.  You may like to see them.

HOW TO LEARN THE VOWELS & CONSONANTS CHARTS & get the diacritics correctly!

In our Sanskṛt pronunciation course, we use two specially designed charts to help the students recognize clearly once and for all, where the diacritics appear, how many they are; the pattern in which they appear and what the diacritics mean.

There is a special way of doing the exercise - first prepare the blank chart which contains ONLY DIACRITICS and NO ALPHABETS. Then reproduce the same blank chart from memory. At the end, take one of the two and fill in the missing alphabets. Keep the blank one - it is the blank one that we must memorize - not the filled up one. Test yourself a week later - if you can reproduce the BLANK chart correctly, in the correct sequence as shown in the following video, THEN you can be sure that you have properly memorized the Romanized Sanskṛt alphabet.

The 3 short videos which take us through this exercise 'What Are Diacritics' can be found here: vimeo.com/groups/151501

Clue: In sanskrit, ṛ is a vowel - that is R with a dot below it, to distinguish it from the normal R that we know, as in Rāma.
Can you think of any other consonant that is used as a vowel in sanskrit? Need help? ->
